Multipurpose Reloading Complex boosts investments in environment protection 9 times

In the first half of 2019, Multipurpose Reloading Complex LLC (MRC) operating at the port of Ust-Luga invested RUB 8.85 million into environment protection, 9 times as much as in the same period of 2018. Environment protection activities are conducted by the company under its comprehensive ecological programme with total investments to exceed RUB 100 million in 2019. The bulk of the amount was spent for the purchase of an additional local sprinkling system to be installed above the multipurpose grabbing equipment. Creating a water cloud the system protects the air from dust generating during handling of loose cargo.

The new ecological equipment can operate in automatic mode or be controlled by an operator from an operator's cab. With one set of equipment already in operation the company is going to acquire three more units by the end of the year. The company has also enhanced monitoring of air and waste water quality as well as the noise level. Having attracted a specialized accredited laboratory, MRC increased the frequency of noise measurements from quarterly to monthly both in daytime and in night hours.

The number of parameters for evaluation of air quality in the sanitary protection zone has increased from 5 to 12. The measurements conducted by the specialists confirm the efficiency of the company’s environment protection activities: MRC impact on the environment does not exceed the standards set forth by the legislation.
